Help
criti.pics is a place to rate photos. Photos go up with no names and no captions, and other people rate them on the picture alone.
Getting started
- Sign up with an email address or a Google account. New accounts get 5 stars (= your first upload is free).
- Rate other people’s photos on the home screen to earn stars.
- Spend stars to upload your own photos and get rated.
Rating
- Once you log in, the home screen becomes the rating queue: one photo per screen, swipe down for the next. Your own photos and photos you already rated are left out.
- Ratings go from 0.5 to 5 in steps of 0.5. Tap or drag across the stars; the rating is saved when you let go.
- The average and the AI score stay hidden until you rate. The idea is that nobody sways you before you look.
- You can change a rating at any time, or remove it with “Undo” next to your rating.
- Photos with few ratings come first in the queue, so every photo gets a minimum of attention.
Stars
| When | Stars |
|---|---|
| Sign-up | +5 |
| First rating on someone else’s photo | +1 |
| Changing a rating | 0 |
| Undoing a rating | −1 (gives back what you earned) |
| Uploading a photo | −5 |
Deleting a photo does not refund its stars. Stars have no monetary value and cannot be refunded or transferred.
Uploading
- Image files up to 20MB. Photos are converted to webp with the long side at 1920px, and metadata such as location is stripped. Originals are not kept.
- Every upload is screened automatically for inappropriate content. If it is rejected, the reason is shown.
- Uploaded photos are visible to everyone, including visitors who are not logged in.
Scores
- The score on a photo page is a weighted average, not a plain one. Ratings from people who rate a lot and upload photos count a little more.
- The number of ratings is not shown.
- The “Top” tab in Browse pulls photos with few ratings toward the overall average before ranking, so a 5.0 with two ratings does not land at number one.
AI score
- Right after upload, an AI model looks at the photo once and gives it an AI score from 0 to 5. It appears in small print on the photo page, separate from the human average, and is never mixed into it.
- The model is not asked for a score. It is asked where the photo sits among everything posted on this site, and that percentile is turned into a score.
- The AI score is for reference. The same photo can get a different result on another run, and scores may change if the model or method changes. If the rating fails, the photo shows “No AI rating”.
Browse
- Latest: newest first. Photos you rated show your rating in gold; your own photos have a gold border.
- Top: by adjusted average.
- AI top: by AI score.
- Photos I rated: visible when logged in.
- Open a photo from Browse and use the ← → keys, the side buttons, or a swipe to move to the previous or next photo.
My page
- Your star balance, email, and your photos. Delete a photo from its photo page.
- Deleting your account permanently and immediately removes your photos, ratings, stars, and account data.
Reporting
Use “Report” on a photo page for anything inappropriate. The operator reviews and removes it.
